I often frame each morning with the perspective that “Today is the first day of the rest of my life.” (The writer of this line is disputed.) It’s a great reminder that our past doesn’t dictate our future, starting with today.
We need not be held captive by past mistakes, sins, or embarrassments. Today offers a fresh start.
Paul says to forget the past and strain to what is ahead, pressing toward the finish line (Philippians 3:13-14).
Yet just as past mistakes need not define us, the opposite is also true. Past successes do not guarantee future results.
We dare not coast through life, expecting that former accomplishments will bring about an expected future.
Today is what matters. Seize it and don’t let go.
