In my book The Ministry of Jesus I’m working on a chapter about the woman caught in adultery from John 8:1-11.
As you may recall, the Jewish leaders drag a woman caught in the act of adultery before Jesus. They hope to trap him into saying something incriminating.
Jesus doesn't judge her. Instead, he tells his detractors that whoever is sinless may throw the first stone at her. Embarrassed, they all slink off.
Jesus shows her mercy. He doesn't condemn her for her actions. But he doesn't condone them either. Interesting.
Too many people today are quick to condemn sin or to condone sin, but Jesus’s example shows that we should do both.
