When Jesus teaches about prayer, one line says, “deliver us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:9-13).
Some translations are more generic, as in “keep us from evil.” This means the evil in the world, including Satan.
Either way, the idea is protection from what God opposes: evil.
When we recite this prayer, we trust God will answer it.
But do we strive to keep away from evil? Too many people don't. They live as close as they can to the world, without crossing the line.
Though God can still answer their request and protect then in their folly, I wonder if he prefers they’d do their part first.
May we do all we can to keep from evil and trust God with the rest.
