Proverbs says “Pride goes before destruction” (Proverbs 16:18). Pride is certainly something we must avoid as Jesus’s followers.
Yet the world celebrates pride, and we must stand against it.
Pride is one of the seven deadly sins, making most every list of the top seven. Many view pride as the worst of the batch.
Pride had its start with Satan; his pride brought about his downfall (Isaiah 14:12–14). Should we expect anything less?
C. S. Lewis writes that pride is anti-God. It’s a sinful condition where self and ego oppose God and what is godly.
When anyone does or says anything under the pretense of pride, we’ll do well to remember that pride is in itself a sin, causes destruction, and is anti-God.
