I enjoy praying for people, but I seldom promise to do so. This is because once—likely more than once—I promised to pray and then forgot.
I didn’t realize it until a week later when the person thanked me for praying. I was too ashamed to admit my error.
That day, I resolved to be cautious about promising to pray. I’d rather not promise and pray than to promise and forget (Ecclesiastes 5:5).
Often I pray right away—either silently or aloud. Then I ask the Holy Spirit to remind me of their request in the days ahead.
Whenever possible, I’ll make a note—either in written form or electronic.
But regardless of the means, the key is being faithful in prayer.
