Some people embrace the New Testament and ignore the Old. Since Jesus fulfilled the law and the prophets (Matthew 5:17), they reason the Old Testament doesn’t matter.
We need both but must keep them in their proper perspective.
Overall, the Old Testament anticipates Jesus and points to a better way through him.
This manifests in the New Testament: Jesus comes to earth, dies for our sins, and prepares his followers to continue without him, through the Holy Spirit.
To fully appreciate this New Testament message, however, we must first understand the Old.
Reading the New Testament and ignoring the Old is like trying to fully appreciate the sequel of a movie without first watching the original.
Embrace what was to better appreciate what is.
